Basic Obedience Class

The DOCOT Basic Obedience Class is a 10 week course that culminates in the graduation exercise with a judge. Training your dog will help your dog fit happily into your home and creates a bond between you and your dog. Group classes ensure that your dog gets socialized to other dogs and people in a controlled environment.

When and Where

The class meets every Tuesday evening promptly at 7:30 PM for an hour and a half on the playing fields at Walteria Park at 3855 W. 242nd Street in Torrance.

Cost

The cost for the 10 week course is $50 and is payable at registration at the first class.

General Information

Dog owners must be at least 16 years of age and the dog must be six months or older and must be on a leash. No dogs the first class night (Registration).

Current Trainer

Our current trainer, Rick Jacoby, joined DOCOT with his first dog in 1981. He worked with three different trainers over the next several years in both novice and open class obedience. Rick attended AKC seminars on training and obedience judging. In 1986 he took over DOCOT’s weekly workshop, and then in 1991 began apprenticing as a trainer with Jim and Jose Butzirus, substituting for Jim as head trainer with Jose when needed. In 2002 Rick took over the Trainer job on a permanent basis and is now running the Tuesday night training classes with the able assistance of Tammy Harrison who has been working with him since he became DOCOT’s Trainer.
